Annual herb, 50- 200 cm tall, hairy, hairs with bulbous base. Stem climbing, much branched, winged, hairy. Leaves alternate with branched tendril at apex; petiole ca. 5 cm long and rachis ca. 11 cm long, winged and hairy; leaflets 1-paired, ovate, oblong or elliptic, 2-6 cm x 0.7-3 cm, with pinnate veins, rarely subparallel veins, margin entire, wavy, apex mucronate, surfaces with stipitate glands and hairs with bulbous base; stipules large, acute, semi-sagittate, hairy. Racemes longer than leaves, up to 24 cm long, peduncle pubescent, 1-3(or 4)-flowered, flowers bisexual, zygomorphic, 5-merous, perigynous, ca. 3 cm long, flowers confined near to apex; pedicels ca. 1 cm long. Calyx 5, fused, ca. 1 cm long, campanulate; tube ca. 5 mm long, teeth 5, nearly equal and longer than calyx tube, ca. 6 mm long, triangular or lanceolate, acute, hairy without. Corolla papilionaceous, variously coloured; vexillum 3 cm x 3 cm, erect, broad, nearly orbicular, base narrow, apex emarginate; wings ca. 2.8 cm x 1.5 cm, shortly clawed, auriculate. Stamens 10, diadelphous (9+1), vexillary stamen free, 9 fused, staminal sheath ca. 1.5 cm long; anthers uniform. Ovary ca. 1.2 cm long, stipitate, stipe ca. 2 mm long, villous, unilocular with 8-10 ovules, placentation marginal; style ca. 1.1 cm long, incurved, flattened below stigma, pubescent; stigma small. Legumes brown-yellow, linear, 5-7 cm long, pubescent. Seeds smooth.
